Bike to Work Day Group Rides and Suggested Routes

This page provides written details of suggested routes to downtown Hamilton at Gore Park.  Some of these routes also feed into other routes and destinations including Mohawk College Fennel Campus and McMaster University. These routes are do-it-yourself routes. Approximate travel times are noted.  Special Bike to Work Day guided Group Rides to Gore Park led by experienced cyclists will start at Gage Park (Gage and Cumberland entrance) and Dundurn Street North.

Group Ride - Gage Park to Gore Park

Starting Point: Gage Park (Cumberland entrance at Gage St)

Group Ride Meeting Time: 7:15 am 

Destination: Gore Park

Route Path: west on Cumberland Ave, right on Sanford, left on Rutherford, right on Wentworth, left on Stinson, right on Wellington, left on Hunter, right on Ferguson, left on Jackson, right on Hughson, arrive at Gore Park.

Group Ride - Dundurn St. N. to Gore Park (Group Ride)

Route Path: North on Dundurn, right on Head St, cut across Victoria park to Napier Street, left on Ray St N, right on York Blvd, right on James St, arrive at Gore Park. 

Distance: 3.2 km

Mohawk Sports Park to Gore Park

Starting Point: Mohawk Sports Park– Trail head for the escarpment Rail Trail at Mohawk Sports Park (NE corner of Mohawk Sports Park, Intersection of Mountain Brow Blvd and Mohawk rd.)

Destination: Gore Park

Route Path: Rail trail down escarpment to Corktown Park, right on Ferguson (dismount and walk bikes through the pedestrian underpass), left on Jackson St, right on Hughson St, arrive at Gore park.

Les Chater YMCA (Central Mountain) to Gore Park

Starting Point: Les Chater YMCA (356 Rymal Road East)

Destination: Gore Park via Mohawk College

Route Path: West on Rymal Rd, right on Upper Wellington, left on Stone Church Rd, right on W 5th St, left on Governors Blvd, left on Fennell Ave, turns into Scenic Dr., walk bike down Chedoke Stairs (at Scenic Dr. and Upper Paradise), head right (East) on the rail trail, left on Dundurn, right on Herkimer, left on Bay St, right on Bold St, left on James St, arrive at Gore Park

Mohawk College to Gore Park

Starting Point: Mohawk College

Destination: Gore Park

Route Path: West on Fennell Ave , turns into Scenic Dr., walk bike down Chedoke Stairs (at Scenic Dr. and Upper Paradise), head right (east) on the rail trail, left on Dundurn, right on Herkimer, left on Bay St,  right on Bold St, left  on James St, arrive at Gore Park

Scenic Drive at Upper Paradise to Gore Park

Starting Point: Scenic Drive at Upper Paradise (North-West Corner)

Destination: Gore Park

Route Path: Walk bike down Chedoke Stairs (at Scenic Dr. and Upper Paradise), head East on the rail trail, left on Dundurn, right on Herkimer, left on Bay St,  right on Bold St, left on James St, arrive at Gore Park

Old Ancaster Town Hall to Gore Park

Starting Point: Ancaster Town Hall (300 Wilson St East)

Destination: Gore Park

Route Path: East on Rail Trail, continue onto Hiawatha Blvd, left onto rail trail at end of Hiawatha (Oneida Blvd), continue onto Filman Rd, right onto Bruce Trail/Chedoke Radial Trail (continue travelling east), left on Dundurn, right on Herkimer, left on Bay, right on Bold, left on James, arrive at Gore Park.

Dundas Community Services to Gore Park

Starting Point: Dundas Community Services (3-2 King St West)

Destination: Gore Park via McMaster

Route Path: East on King St, continue onto Cootes Dr. multi-use path, cross sidewalk to get onto King St W/College Crt on the McMaster University campus, right on University Ave, continue onto Emerson St, left onto Rail Trail, continue East on Studholme Rd, right on Aberdeen, left on Hawthorne Ave, right on Homewood Ave, left on MacDonald Ave, continue onto Herkimer, left on Bay, right on Bold, left on James, arrive at Gore Park.

McMaster University to Gore Park

Starting Point: McMaster University, Emerson St/University Ave Entrance (at Main St W)

Destination: Gore Park

Route Path: ride off campus onto Emerson St, left onto Rail Trail, continue East on Studholme Rd, right on Aberdeen, left on Hawthorne Ave, right on Homewood Ave, left on MacDonald Ave, continue onto Herkimer, left on Bay, right on Bold, left on James, arrive at Gore Park.

Starting Point: Royal Botanical Gardens Main Centre (Plains Rd W at Spring Gardens Rd)

Starting Point: Longwood Rd South and King Street West

Destination: Gore Park via Waterfront Trail and James Street North

Route Path: North on Longwood, continue on Longwood past Princess Point, right onto the Waterfront trail towards Bayfront Park,  left on Harbourfront Drive (ride up the Hill), continue onto Strachan, right on James St, arrive at Gore Park.

Stoney Creek to Gore Park

Starting Point: King Street E at Jones

Destination: Gore Park via Red Hill Bowl then Gage Park

Route Path: West on King St, left on Lawrence Rd, right onto Gage Ave, left on Cumberland Ave, right on Sanford, left on Rutherford, right on Wentworth, left on Stinson, right on Wellington, left on Hunter, right on Ferguson, left on Jackson, right on Hughson, arrive at Gore Park.

Red Hill Bowl to Gore Park

Starting Point: Red Hill Bowl (Lawrence Rd at Mount Albion) 

Destination: Gore Park via Gage Park

Route Path: West on Lawrence, right on Gage, left on Cumberland, right on Sanford, left on Rutherford, right on Wentworth, left on Stinson, right on Wellington, left on Hunter, right on Ferguson, left on Jackson, right on Hughson, arrive at Gore Park.

Westdale to Gore Park

Starting Point: King St W & Longwood Rd S

Destination: Gore Park

Route Path: North on Longwood, continue on Longwood past Princess Point, right onto the Waterfront trail towards Bayfront Park,  left on Harbourfront Drive (ride up the Hill), continue onto Strachan, right on James St, arrive at Gore Park. 

Distance: 6.8 km

Group Ride - Gore Park to McMaster University (departs Gore Park after Reception)

Meeting Point: Gore Park (corner King and James Streets)

Meeting Time: 8:15 am

Route Path: depart Gore Park - King – Bay – Market – Hess – Napier – Victoria Park – Head – Dundurn – Hunt – Breadalbane – King St West
(note Ride Leader discretion to: dismount and walk on sidewalk over 403 or take the lane & cycle on the bridge depending on comfort level of cyclists)
