Open Streets Hamilton is back for June 2013!

James Street North

Leave your car at home and come walk, ride, or roll down James St. North! Join us for this family-friendly event by walking, cycling, rollerblading or skateboarding the whole family over to James St. North between the hours of 10am to 5pm.

During this time, the street will be closed to cars and we ask you find an alternate route if you must drive, or park your car and get active! We invite everyone to experience James St North, the downtown, and the waterfront from the middle of the street! Along the route, we work with local organizations and businesses to provide fun, active, healthy, family-based activities to engage passers-by as they travel down the street.

Come out to the streets and bring a friend (or two)!
Submit an application to join the event, as Open Streets is looking for local programing!
Volunteer to be a guide and get a free t-shirt!

Sunday, June 23rd, 2013, will mark our 7th car-free Sunday in Hamilton since June 2010! This event promotes active transportation, healthy living, and brings Hamilton’s communities together.

Goals of Open Streets Hamilton

Raise awareness for pedestrian, cycling and other sustainable transportation issues
Promote Hamilton’s existing sustainable transportation and recreation trail networks
Promote healthy, active forms of transportation (including public transit) to achieve health benefits.for individuals
Provide tourism and economic benefit to downtown neighbourhoods
Showcase services of local community groups and businesses
Provide lessons and data to bolster the case for ongoing ‘Open Streets’ in subsequent years
